Jawa Problems and how to get over with

Jawa problems
jawa problems explainned by Indian on Indian

Jawa motorcycles been loved by a huge fan base. I was a big fan of motorcycle and the modern iteration had me drooling. Unfortunately there are some jawa problems that desperately needs to be addressed.

I would like to part this post in two sections. In first section I will throw some light on issues that owners came upfront with. In next section I will point out what problems I encountered that kept me away from booking the bike. Although, I was desperately been waiting for Jawa Motorcycles months before launch. In fact I was looking for an old jawa motorcycle to restore.

But as with almost every new motorcycle there are some underlying short comings with this bike. I will try to provide solutions to most of the problems at the end of this post. Lets now talk about Jawa problems. I hope I would be able to properly explain and reader might be able to understand my point of view.

The biggest of Jawa problems.

This is universal. Jawa in its new iteration is unable to rectify this single biggest issue. And this issue is of the saddle. Yeah! rightly so. Almost everyone who has ridden the JAWA and the JAWA 42 had this problem. The seat is slim and the foam is stiff. This wont allow you to ride for long. 20-30 minutes on the bike and your buttocks will start to feel the strain. What’s worse? This can potentially injure your tail bone in long run. This tail bone injury is excruciating. Believe me you do not want it. So, what could be done?

Solution.

Well, most of the riders are replacing their seats of adjusting the comfort level by adding foam. Al tough this resolves the issue but why a rider have to do one of the most basic thing? A very basic need that the reputed corporation like Mahindra should have provided.

Unfortunately, every thing that has been going on in this regard is from riders. Company is doing nothing. But they should because this is indicating ignorance towards customers.

Jawa problems : The engine.

Secondly the engine. Now, most of the things that have been reported about Jawa’s new engine is really good. But there is something missing form this new engine. The character of the old thumper. Those who have ridden old yezidi and jawa motorcycles will understand what I am saying.

“pat-pat chalti jaye gaddi”

we used to say this about yezidi and jawa in our childhood days.

Definitely Mahindra has done a really smart work using old Mojo’s engine. This move have saved millions in investment for the company. Had they gone for entierly new engine it would have costed them a fortune. That in turn would have increased the price of already expensive motorcycle.

But the mojo engine is a short stroke engine. Its meant to perform at high revs and is more characterful if ridden enthusiastically. But, audience for a classic motorcycle of the likes of Jawa are not looking for peak performance. Or for 0-60, 0-100 superiority. They are here for easy laid back riding. I feel this is missing in the bike.

Solution.

Well what is done is done. Though there is nothing wrong with the engine But the jawa is certainly missing on the old jawa riding experience. But there is always a scope of improvement in the future. So, lets hope that top brass is working on to improve this in next generation engines. And lets hope it lands on our shore soon and without Mojo heritage.

Receiving and follow up of customer.

Now this is my personal experience. It may be limited to me or might be extending to a larger customer base. I cant be sure about that.

But really follow up of customers is bad with this company. Let me elaborate my situation. With the announcement of the launch of Jawa we were very much inclined to purchase this bike. We even thought of booking the bike online. But on the second thought we stepped back and tried to contact the dealer.

That was even before the showroom was complete. I personally visited the showroom thrice when it was under construction. A few times i talked on the number provided on the website for Jaipur showroom. I was so much excited to have a look at the bike. But to my disappointment on the day of launching the bike in jaipur I didnt received a call. At that time after consulting with my family and several motorcycling enthusiasts I decided to go for the Royal Enfield continental gt  650.

At that time I just let it go. I felt that if they are reluctant to even give a call to the potential customer then what would be there after sales treatment.

Solution.

I really think that this is not the short coming of the Jawa company itself. They must hire staff that is excited about the heritage of this bike. Talking to the showroom people I felt utter lack of enthusiasm in meeting new customers. May be that is because they might have already ahead of their sales targets. May be a little customer relationship training would help.

It happened again.

With the launch of Jawa perak I was again anticipating to have this beautiful motorcycle in my garage. So, once again I went to visit the showroom right after the national launch. The person their told me that Jawa perak will be available in two or three weeks from now for test ride. They wrote down my number in a booklet and told me that once the bike is here I will get a call.

What happened then? I don’t know yet. I am still waiting for their call and i have seen the bike a couple of times standing in the front of showroom.

At first I thought to go in and be nice and ask for a test ride. Then I thought if they would have valued a customer inquiry, they would have called.

In almost all certainty I am not going to go for a product from a company that is so much reluctant towards approaching new customers. I believe their after sales service will be horrible based upon their before sales attitude.

I hope those who have settled for this bike would get better customer support form the local dealer.

Solution.

What can I say? Again they ignored a super excited prospect who would have been a customer for sure. This incident makes me think over and over again. If they are not interested in calling their prospect what would be their attitude over customer who already have their bikes?

One thing that jawa should improve upon is welcoming their prospects. Also improvement in this reluctant attitude will certainly improve their customer retention. And in future, if they decide to go for higher capacity engines then a pampered customer would never mind in staying within the company fold and upgrading their machines. But if they are lacking behind in terms of respectfully treating their customers? I don’t know?

Minor Jawa problems.

Up to now I have reported jawa problems that have shook me a bit. These kept me away from the brand till now. Still I am drooling all over the Jawa perak. That is the appeal of the brand and its history. Even with concerns and criticism you just cant repel Jawa away.

Let me now bring up some problems that have been reported by new Jawa owners. Some problems are minor whereas some are really intense. Some are being solved some are still lingering on. But I must remind you that this is a very new company and some glitches must be forgiven. This is advice-able as long as owners get good after sales support from the company. Which unfortunately I think will be the greatest hurdle in the way of Jawa in a long run.

So, let us now concentrate on problems reported by the owners of new Jawa.

Rust on Jawa Bikes: First of many jawa problems.

This was the first major problem that surfaced. Rust on a brand new bike. Several jawa owners came up with pictures, social media posts and you tube videos to report this short coming. It was surprising that how a company like mahindra compromised on quality. Is it so?  Or there was some other issue under the surface. Well one thing is for sure that they have ignored strict manufacturing process to meet a deadline. In most of the cases the paint was not cured properly for time and had not dried up completely. With all the hype to live up to may be some high level management thought that the paint will dry up eventually. What do you need? time! well the bike will get enough time in an owners garage.

But to their plight the monsoon struck a bit earlier and exposed their deliberate overlooking. I cant imagine what those owners were feeling when this struck them. Rust on a premium segment bike with a history to live up to! God knows. I feel lucky that my friends talked me out of booking the Jawa.

Solution.

I believe that this issue had already been resolved by the company. Now no new reports of rusting are coming. I think that in a race of launching their bikes ahead of the Royal enfield 650 launch they have compromised with the fit and finish of their product. But now since a lot of time has passed and Jawa factory is in full swing this issue might never surface again. Well next monsoon will revel if its treated or not. I hope so because I am really planning to get the perak.

Jawa problems:Excessive heat from the engine.

Some of the riders that went to take a test ride reported this issue. Some owners also had the same issue. Jawa engine tends to throw up a lot of heat towards rider’s legs. This problem may have occurred because of new components in the engine. It actually takes time to sand microscopic deformities inside the engine. So, before a run for 1500-2000 km it is expected that the engine will throw up the heat.

Solution.

First of all keep in touch of the service station near you. Follow their recommendations. The engine tend to heat more on its initial run. When you will be going in for second service the engine heat should be down. Also, don’t try any engine oil other than recommended. Always go for the 91 octane fuel. This will allow your engine to run more freely with less stress resulting in good engine health.

Unusually loud radiator fan.

This problem also surfaced in some test ride bikes. Some owners also indicated that their radiator fan is making unexpectedly loud sound while running. There is also some incident I remember from a YouTube video that even after halting and turning off the engine the radiator keeps on working. This is very annoying sometimes.

Solution.

I believe that the radiator has been working on a temperature setting. Once the optimum temperature is achieved the radiator should also stop. But I am not having a very clear picture of this problem so I suggest anyone having such issues must contact to the nearest Jawa workshop for relief.

Conclusion.

There are several petty issues that arise on every motorcycle and with every manufacturer. Most of the times person spending more than 2 lakh  rupees on a bike will not be bothered by a little spending to improve their bikes. But I must point out that the introduction, orientation and experience of the brand is in the core of all unfolding. If Jawa remains reluctant and cold towards their prospective customers then in the long run they wont be able to make an impact on the Indian motorcycling.

Their product is strong. Their heritage is vibrant. Their presence and reach is wide. All they have to do is to treat their customers right and make their after sales service a delightful experience. Mahindra should emphasize more on getting better employs and train them to genuinely care for the customers. With this Jawa can work wonders. It have products to be the most loved brand and dethrone the Royal Enfield. But that will take a lot of sincere effort to rule hearts of their customer. Good luck jawa , have a great run.
