Yeah, you read it right. There is a new 650CC motorcycle on the cards next. We all know the 650 twins have worked wonders for Royal Enfield and they are again set to drop a new bomb for the motorcycling world. This post will clarify all possibilities connected to this new Royal Enfield 650CC cruiser. But is it just the same 650CC twin that powers interceptor and continental GT? Well, as there is no confirmation from the manufacturer we can’t be sure but we know that Europe and USA have 750cc and 865CC kits from S&S that are developed in collaboration with Royal Enfield. So, will we get at least one of those here as standard? Let’s find out.
Was on cards since the launch of the interceptor.
I bought my continental GT in February 2019. In the same year, Enfield applied for ownership of Meteor, Sherpa and hunter names. I was hopeful that a hefty cruiser is on its way and I mentioned this in my riders group. Not one supported my idea. They said that it will take Enfield at least 4 years to bring a new bike. But I was confident because with the copyright of the name Meteor company started to display Meteor 700 in different classic shows worldwide. I had some vision in my mind of Meteor being a standard bike as its classic counterpart. But boy oh boy, Enfield had blown away all stereotypes regarding design. The bike seen in spy shots clicked by fellow Enfield rider is thoroughly modern.

The spy shots.
Just two days ago a rider shot a 20-second video of the bike. At first, it wasn’t clear what bike is that. But when he got close there is Royal Enfield branding on the oil reservoir below the engine. Looking at the bike I thought that it is Meteor 350. But when I looked at pics (Source) more keenly I noticed that this bike is way bigger than the Meteor 350. On close examination, it was clear that this is a fairly modern bike. Enfield again has a champion in its hands and this bike is going to blow sales charts not only in India but also in Europe and the USA. There were several points that made it clear later that this is a 650 twin engine. There are several apparent new updates on this motorcycle. Let’s examine then one by one.
Royal Enfield 650CC Cruiser : New Tech. Addition
There are several updates in this bike that make it far more technologically advanced than interceptor or continental GT.
One thing that is obvious is a new style. To impart that low slung and long stance Royal Enfield has thrown a new frame in the picture. Yes, we are talking about the change of underpinnings. Secondly, rider’s footpegs are now way forward than 650 twins. This means that the problem of footpeg rubbing with rider’s calves will not be encountered. Also, the new frame close to the ground by a fair margin. Short riders will find it quite easy to manage this bike.

Next is the belt drive. Though there is some confusion around the internet looking at the picture in which there is a rear fender, I am positive that its a belt drive. Other than these, this new Royal Enfield 650CC cruiser gets new exhausts and alloy wheels. The instrument cluster is like that of upcoming Meteor 350 and yes we expect Bluetooth connectivity. Keeping in line with the modern-day customs Royal Enfield should provide a toggle switch to control the instrument cluster.
Royal Enfield 650CC Cruiser Expectations
I mentioned above that this is a bike that will be a big seller all over the world. Existing market conditions are favourable to bring this new champion. Market, especially the automobile sector is going through a bad phase. We all know that Harley Davidson is packing up form India and they are not doing well in their own country and other strong markets. All big engine cruisers are being dumped and ignored by new prospective customers. So, riders will seek a viable alternative. This is where meteor 650 fits perfectly.
Secondly, Royal Enfield bikes are easy on the pocket. They are inexpensive to buy and spares are also cheap in comparison to other manufactures. This is a big reason why sales of Harley Davidson Street and Street Rod crashed down to its lowest ever.

Thirdly, they have a reliable engine and platform at their hands. With the success of Interceptor and Continental GT, there is no problem in expanding the 650 family now.
Above all Meteor 700 has a history and with this new Meteor 650, Royal Enfield is set to repeat it. I am waiting for this bike. I also expect this new Royal Enfield 650cc cruiser to be a big brother to Meteor 350 and they might be presented in the market as other Royal Enfield families like classic and Thunderbird.
