Nipah Virus Symptoms, DOs, and DONTs: To understand clearly Nipah is an RNA(ribonucleic acid) virus in the henipavirus genus and belongs to the paramyxoviridae family. It is a zoonotic pathogen (infectious disease-transmitting between animals and human) which is spreading rapidly through fruit bats also known as flying foxes and pigs. The Nipah virus was first found and affected humans through pigs in Malaysia and Singapore 10 years ago and now again showing its violence in India.

Nipah Virus Precautions:-

Here I am discussing precautions only because no vaccination or proper medication is Available specifically for the Nipah virus but what we can do in such a condition is to get aware of the risk factors of the infection and how to prevent exposure to it. So here I am going to list up Dos and Don’ts for survival.

Nipah Virus Dos:

  1. Always wash your hands before eating, after coming in contact with people  “because you may not know who’s infected or not”, wash if you come in contact with animals.
  2. Whatever you consume wash properly like fruits, vegetables, etc. Better to avoid non-vegetarian food because of the higher chances of infection. Avoid eating food outside, eat packed food, or fully cooked items but I personally recommend homemade food.
  3. Wear masks and gloves while taking care of an infected person especially the body fluids or wastes.
  4. Wearing masks while traveling would also be suggested by my side because the disease is very contagious.
  5. If you come across any of the symptoms mentioned above it’s highly recommended to consult with your doctor as soon as possible.
  6. It’s always better to use sanitizers.

Nipah Virus Dont’s:

  1. Don’t purchase fruits and vegetables from dirty counters.
  2. Don’t consume fruits and vegetables that are eaten by birds or animals for you never know which one is infected.
  3. Don’t contact directly an infected person.
  4. Avoid eating dates and drinking raw date palm sap
  5. Don’t ever try to neglect any symptoms mentioned above.
