Haier Mocking India and Indians in Their New Advertisement

Haier mocking India and Indians is a very new and overlooked scenario. This is a Chinese corporation that manufactures and sells electronics around the world. Haier is having a large product portfolio and is pitching good sales numbers in India. They are offering air conditioners, refrigerators, televisions and several other products to the Indian consumer. Indian consumer also has taken its products with quite a following. But in the light of Indo-Chinese tensions, their new advertisement seems a mockery of India and its social system.

They are being disrespectful. We know that our society is overwhelming by diversity. We have our own disagreements over several things. In fact, there are almost no topics on which India can unite as one. But, our National pride is certainly the one. Let us examine the situation more elaborately.

Their new advertisement.

The new advertisement for Haier is airing on several social media platforms. If you have searched for electronics appliances in recent time you might have noticed their advertisement for bottom mounted refrigerators.

In the first scene of their ad, they portray a young Indian lady overlooking her social responsibility. That might be true in daily life for several Indians. But why pick this face of Indian youth. There are several examples of really inspiring young Indians. But they deliberately showed this. Why am I upset about this? Because the wife of one of my friend pointed out their daughter saying that she does the same. She doesn’t respect her elders. But I have another opinion. She feels alone and because of this public belittling is unable to counsel with her elders.

Second scene.

In the second scene, they laughed at eating habits of Indians and portraits Indian women specifically. Obesity and weight struggle is a big problem in India. Women seem to suffer more from this problem. But in picturing Indian women eating desert with salad they forget about their struggles. Or, they deliberately left out that part. Most of the Indian women who are homemakers find their refuge against loneliness in small gatherings they call kitty parties. The overwhelming stress of the week is liberated at such parties. Here they can be their own selves. In such gatherings, they don’t have to worry about their children eating properly or meeting their husband’s guests.

Do they know that desert can make them fat? Yes, they do. But they also know that a little enjoyment brings a ray of happiness in their life. Haier, stop making fun of Indian women.

Third Scene.

Now comes the famous Indian Traffic. Haphazard to the extreme. Haier mocked this situation also. They showed a car going in the opposite direction in between two lanes of forward-moving traffic. There is a problem of wrong side driving and road rage in India. But is it a problem of Indians only? No, it’s not like what Haier is showing. Road rage and wrong side driving is a big problem everywhere in the world. But unlike China, form where Haier comes, India doesn’t block free internet. There is no censorship here on live streaming except in cases like porn, cruelty and crime.

Next is the scene of mobile ringing in a gym disturbing others. Well, that is a small problem but I really do not think that anyone leaves their mobile on a ringing mode deliberately in a serious business meeting.

The fifth scene, shameless mocking of Indians and their integrity.

This is the one scene that I hate most in Haier new advertisement. This scene shows parents paying corruption money to the school principal. Well, in some high-end schools there is a problem with fees. It has been reported that schools charge exorbitant fees and sometimes unexplained and unfair charges. But corruption? There are so many schools in India now that such cases are just imagination to put Indian education system done. The most unfortunate thing is including children in this advertisement to belittle India.

It is so enraging. There are several other scenes in the advertisement that reflects bad underpinnings of Indians. Like Indians not respecting art and culture. Indians not respecting historical monuments. Even they mocked the Indian voting system. China, at least we have the right to vote. Are the Chinese allowed to vote? No, they are not. With whatever stupid and adamant regime they have, they have to cope with it.

The finale.

At last, they give a glimpse of every problem depicted in the advertisement and then show an Indian woman, a mother, a wife bending and what words they used in the background? She is submissive and ignorant of her pain to such submission. Haier? are you out of your mind? Yes, we have our problems. Yes, there is a lot of scope of improvement. But do we don’t recognize these? Yes, we do and there are several thousand people working across Indian and even abroad to help with these issues.

So, stop seeing and observing Indian and Indian women in the shadow of your own country. At least we have the freedom to speak, upload and listen to what we want. In China no one can come up and speak in against of evils committed by the communist regime there. We cherish our country and we recognize its challenges. Keep your evil eye away from us.

Conclusion.

This advertisement was aired in 2018 at first. Do you remember what was going on at that time between India and China? Doklam border dispute was there. I have not watched this advertisement then. Recently when I searched for french door refrigerators YouTube started showing this regularly. YouTube selects and displays advertisement by your search history. Every other advertisement hailed products technological advancement or the convenience of regular use or some other unique feature. But Haier specifically chose to display advertisement belittling India, her problems and Indian women.

Don’t you find it more than a coincidence that this advertisement first appeared during Dolkam border dispute and again during India china rumble in Laddakh?

I have said previously that I am not going to support china by funding their government by buying Chinese products. At least where it’s apparent. I urge you to shift your focus on non-Chinese companies. Ask the seller to show other options. At last its really up to you.
